The Health Benefits of Hemp Oil and Hemp Milk

What is Hemp oil?

Hemp Oil is not Psychoactive, this means that it will not get you “high”. Hemp Oil comes from the seeds of the Hemp plant.

It can be used for both topical use on your skin and for dietarty use with your food.

The 3 Key Components of Hemp
oil
:

1: Vitamin E

Vitamin E is comprised of molecules called tocopherols and tocotrienols, and within each group there are four different types.

Hemp Seed Oil has all of these and most importantly it contains much higher levels of tocopherols than most other edible oils. Hemp Seed Oil’s vitamin E makeup is necessary to help the body combat a variety of degenerative conditions.

The antioxidants contained in Hemp Seed Oil’s Vitamin E content counteract the damaging power of free radicals. If left to accumulate in our bodies, free radicals can cause serious problems such as cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s disease and certain types of cancer.

To help keep your body free of all these nasties just use one teaspoon of Hemp Seed Oil a day.

2: Essential Fatty Acids

Essential fatty acids need to be eaten in foods like Hemp Seed Oil as it’s the only way to get them into your body, hence why they are called “Essential”. The three most important ones are Omega 3, 6 and 9, all of which are found in Hemp Seed Oil.

Omega 3 is concentrated in fish oil and until very recently was thought to be the answer to heart problems. New research from the Heart foundation Australia has found that fish oil does not provide any health benefit to your heart.

Hemp Seed Oil,has a composition similar to our skin’s fatty acids, and therefore makes an excellent moisturiser for dry, tired or dehydrated skin.

Clinical studies have shown hemp seed oil to be an effective treatment for dermatitis and eczema. In addition, science has demonstrated that a specific ratio (3:1) of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids is vital for reducing inflammation! This is the ratio in Hemp Seed Oil.

3: Plant Cholestrol

There are two main types of cholesterol: high-density lipoprotein (HDL) which is considered “good” cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL)  which is considered “bad” cholesterol as high levels of this cholesterol can lead to cardiovascular-related health problems.

Scientific research has shown that “Good” cholesterol from plants is known as phytosterol, helps lower the bad (LDL) cholesterol by preventing its absorption during the digestion process, which reduces the LDL cholesterol in the body.

When Hemp Oil is compared to other common vegetable oils, the total phytosterols content in Hemp Seed Oil is alot higher than in the likes of soybean or sunflower oils.

The health benefits of phytosterols are associated with lowering the risk of cardiovascular diseases, as they inhibit absorption of cholesterol from dietary fat, which therefore reduces the LDL cholesterol.

Hemp seed oil may be a helpful treatment for a range of many skin issues, including:

:Dermatitis

:Eczema

:Psoriasis

:Varicose eczema

:Lichen Planus

:Acne, Rosacea

These benefits are most likely due to the high quantity of beneficial fats and all the helpful compounds in the oil.

Hemp seeds are a great source of plant based protien,

Approximately 25% of calories in hemp seeds come from protein, which is relatively high.

By weight, hemp seeds provide similar amounts of protein as beef and lamb , 30 grams of hemp seeds (2–3 Tbsp) will provide about 11 grams of protein.

Hemp seeds are considered a complete protein source, which means that they provide all the essential amino acids. Your body cannot produce essential amino acids and must obtain them from your diet.

Hemp Milk

Hemp milk is becoming popular plant-based alternative to cow’s milk. Drinking hemp milk may benefit skin health and protect against heart disease.

Hemp milk is made by blending water with the seeds of the hemp plant.

Hemp milk has an earthy, nutty flavor and a creamy consistency. You can use in place of cow’s milk in, for example, coffee, cereal, baking and smoothies.

Though hemp milk can be made from just seeds and water, many commercial varieties contain sweeteners, salt or thickeners as well.

With the growing popularity of  hemp milk, it can be found in most grocery stores and online. You can also make hemp milk at home.

At The Love Earth Store we are stocking products with hemp oil and hemp milk in them.
